Challenge Completed

When you have completed your “challenge,” submit your name on the Google Form: CLICK HERE to be entered into a weekly drawing for the “Soaring Eagle” award.  The class winner will be awarded the small eagle mascot and will bring it to the flag salute the following week to pass it on to the new class winner.

Recognition

The SOAR Award:

Be on the lookout for one kid who displays outstanding behavior with SOAR during the month of May. Use this Google Form: CLICK HERE to nominate your student at the end of the month or sometime before May 26th. These students will be recognized at the following Flag Salute, take a group photo for display in the front office, and receive a small gift of appreciation. :)

Challenge Activity - May 2018

Special note: Please feel free to customize/modify any challenge to fit your grade-level needs.

 

1)  Please review the SOAR rules/expectations with your students. Refer to the ringed “SOAR” resource (see photo) and your SOAR binder.  There are many ways to review the rules, be creative. There are some great suggestions in the SOAR binder.

 

One suggestion for review is to use the CLR strategy, "Graffiti Talk." 

 

 

CLR Strategy

 GRAFFITI TALK

Protocol/Description:

  1. The teacher posts 4 charts around the room, each labeled with one of the SOAR traits: Self-Control. Offer Kindness. Act Responsibly. Respect Yourself & Others. 
  2. When students are given an attention signal, such as, "When I say 'Time to' you say 'Move'," students who volunteer (or however you decide to rotate your students) get up and go to a chart paper and write or draw their responses to what that SOAR trait looks like in action. 
  3. They do this activity silently or in quiet conversations.
  4. When all the traits have been responded to, students sit down and the teacher leads the whole class in a review or discussion of the SOAR Lifestyle. 

 

 

 

Another suggestion would be to have the kids' role-play positive and negative situations. For example, pick a category, such as, “Outside Recess,” and have them role-play the incorrect/correct way of one of the four categories: Self-Control, Offer Kindness, Act Responsibly, Respect Yourself & Others, while having the other kids point out the behaviors being acted out. Bonus...take them to the actual location.




 

2) Create a class “notecard” book. Please attach a ring to secure all the cards together or put in a ziplock bag with your name on it. Please put it in the box in the staff room. 


 

Directions for Activity:

Have each kid in your class create one notecard with how they demonstrated a “SOAR” category this year, using a combination of drawings and/or writing. We have included a cover example, a primary example, and upper-grade example.  

 

 





 

4) Be sure to submit that your class completed the "challenge," located in the left-hand column of this page. :)
